Drug Interdiction on I-95 in Volusia County, Florida in 1986 (Trooper Robert Vogel)

Trooper Robert Vogel of the Florida Highway Patrol in 1985 and 1986 working I-95 in in Volusia County Florida tracking down and arresting drug couriers carrying large amounts of marijuana and cocaine going through Volusia County, Florida. Trooper Vogel arrested many drug dealers in the 1980's by using what at the time was known as a "drug courier profile". Many of his traffic stops were highly controversial and sparked a large number of court cases, some of which went to higher courts of Florida, and the Supreme Court of the United States. A large number of the cases were ruled in favor of Trooper Vogel and the methods he used in conducting the arrests, some were not. Many agencies across the Country adopted the Trooper Vogel's tactics for identifying drug dealers running their drugs in vehicles all throughout the Country which is still happening today, and many agencies were challenged in court for using these tactics, which at the time were new and had not been challenged in court. A lot of the tactics are stilled utilized today by Highway Patrol, Sheriff, and Police agencies across the Country after refining the way things were done and using the adopted policies that were approved by the Courts.
